Mandarava was the daughter of the King and Queen of Zahor, an Indian kingdom located in present day Himachal Pradesh, India. She became a close disciple and consort of Guru Rinpoche while he stayed in Zahor prior to coming to Bhutan and Tibet. In time, she became a fully realized spiritual adept and great teacher. As in this photo, she is traditionally depicted to Guru Rinpoche's right side.
