Tinggi Zhel Zangma is one of the Five Sisters of Long Life (Tsering Ché Nga), guardians responsible for protecting the Buddhist teachings. While the sisters are found in all four major schools of Tibetan Buddhism, they are most closely associated with the Nyingma and Kagyü traditions, the two most prominent in Bhutan.
