In the warm months, nomads move pasture with their yaks, which requires a portable home or ger. Gers vary in color. Some are all black, mixed black and white, or all white. The black gers are made of yak hair yarn spun by local women. It takes several years worth of yarn to make an entire ger. Because of this, some families buy parts of gers on the market, which are often white in color.
