The kangling (literally “leg” (kang) “flute” (ling)) is an instrument used in tantric Buddhist rituals. It is particularly associated with the practice of chöd (lit. “to cut”), whereby the practitioner, motivated by compassion, plays the kangling and summons hungry spirits and demonic forces to feast on her/his flesh in order to relieve the suffering of the otherworldly presences.
