The lives and livelihoods of nomadic communities in the Tibetan plateau are very interconnected with the animals they herd: yaks. Yaks provide daily staples (milk, butter, cheese, yogurt), clothing, and tools (blankets, carpets, bags, and even portion of their tents, called “ger”). Traditional handspinning techniques for turning yak hair and down into yarn are passed down through generations.
