Sertog literally means ‘gold tip or pinnacle’. The Sertog is the highest architectural element placed on top of the roofs of dzongs, lhakhang, monasteries and Royal Buildings. The sertog is usually made from beaten copper or brass, which is gold plated. The Sertog is permissible only on Dzongs, Royal Buildings, and temples and on Monasteries.
